This is something I'd like to share that reveals early influences in my writing. I entered the Midnight Syndicate 13th Anniversary Video Contest filmmaking competition sponsored by Midnight Syndicate a few years ago. The piece I produced and directed was entitled “I Leave This World”. I used Gargoyles composed by Edward Douglas as the soundtrack for the short film. I didn’t win the competition but received some pleasant comments from Edward regarding my use of shadows during the filmmaking. He said that “It was very unusual and the low light conditions added to the surreal nature of the piece. I still can't tell exactly what that item is at the end – and I like that.” The location where I filmed this piece, the ruins of the Holy Cross Sanatorium in southwest New Mexico, has since been destroyed due to its nefarious past. It was very similar to the Mansfield Reformatory near where the filming for the Midnight Syndicate film The Dead Matter occurred. I felt certain while I filmed this piece there was a supernatural presence. Of course, having said that, I feel that way often. I hope you enjoy this piece. Thank you.
